Updates on Two Bethesda-Area Parking Garages

For Immediate Release: Thursday, May 5, 2016

  • Woodmont-Rugby Avenue county garage:  Effective Monday, May 2, part of the garage closest to the Rugby Avenue entrance is permanently closed, eliminating 119 parking spaces (22 short-term, 97 long-term). However, the entrance remains open to pedestrians. See the fact sheet for information on nearby parking alternatives.

The closure is due to construction of a new 2nd district police station on the vacant lot adjacent to the garage. The garage's eliminated public parking spaces will be used to store police vehicles and equipment.

  • New garage at Bethesda North Bethesda Marriott Conference Center. Construction of a new garage to replace the current surface parking lot at the Conference Center is set to begin this summer and take 12 to 15 months. The parking lot, managed by Marriott International, will be open both to Conference Center users and the public. It will have six levels and 650 parking spaces.

Although final county approval hasn't been given, it should come soon, given that the proposal was initiated by the county. See the Planning Department staff report for details and renderings of the new garage.
