MTA Utility Work to Close Lanes on Wisconsin Avenue this Weekend

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 8, 2016

On Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, utility relocations will occur in preparation for construction of a new Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance that will require double lane closures on both northbound and southbound Wisconsin Avenue between MD 410 (East-West Highway) and MD 191 (Bradley Boulevard). Work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and could continue on November 19 and 20 if bad weather or other issues impact work progress.

Verizon will be relocating an underground duct bank across Wisconsin Avenue to connect to the existing underground network.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is managing a series of utility relocations on behalf of Montgomery County in preparation for construction of a new, ADA accessible Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance located at the intersection of Elm Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The Bethesda Metro South entrance will eventually connect to MTA’s Purple Line Bethesda station. Funded by the County, and ultimately owned and operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metro (WMATA), these utility relocations represent the first stage of approximately six years of coordinated construction in the area of the Bethesda Metrorail Station South Entrance.

Real-time updates about Phase 2, Verizon work, and additional details about subsequent phases of the work will be made available by MTA at mta.maryland.gov/transit-projects.

For any questions about this work, please contact MTA at 443-278-7210 or via email at utilityinfo@mtatdd.com.
