DTE Making Progress on New Bike Paths

For Immediate Release: Thursday, November 10, 2016

MCDOT’s Division of Transportation Engineering is making progress on several bike path projects:

  • The 3,400-linear-foot bike Needwood Road Bike Path along the south side of Needwood Road will provide a connection from the western terminus of the ICC Shared Use Path to 55 feet east of Equestrian Lane.

  • The 1,600-linear-foot Clopper Road Bike Path along the north side of Clopper Road is located between Hopkins and Kingsview roads and provide the missing link between two previously completed bike path sections and existing sidewalks and shared use paths serving the community; and

  • The .2-mile Glenbrook Road Contraflow Separated Bike Lane will be five feet wide along the east side of Glenbrook Road from Bradley Boulevard to Fairfax Drive and provide a connection between the Capital Crescent Trail and a signed bike route that connects to North Bethesda. This is especially important for cyclists riding northbound since Glenbrook Road is one way southbound. This project includes traffic calming islands to help reduce speeds, green pavement markings at conflict areas such as driveways and intersections and flex posts between the bike lane and travel lane. The project is a cooperative effort with MCDOT’s Division of Highway Services’ Edgemoor/Bradley Hills Residential Rehabilitation project, which repaved roads and replaced curbs and sidewalks in the neighborhood.
