SHA Begins New Phase of Intersection Reconstruction on MD 187 in Bethesda

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 2, 2017

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) has begun a new phase of construction in Bethesda on southbound MD 187 (Old Georgetown Road), from Beech Avenue to Oakmont Avenue. SHA crews are working on the curbs, gutters, sidewalk and retaining wall, while a utility relocates its lines. This portion of the project, weather permitting, should be completed by late April.

During the work, crews may close one lane in either direction of MD 187, weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sidewalk on southbound MD 187 within one-half mile of the project will be closed and pedestrians will be directed to use the safest crossings within the work zone on the opposite side of the road. In addition, the sidewalk on southbound MD 187 from Oakmont Avenue to Center Drive will close weekdays at 7 a.m. and reopen daily at 3 p.m.
