MCDOT Asked to Join Safe Routes to School National Partnership Local Leaders Advisory Committee

MCDOT Safe Routes to School Coordinator Nadji Kirby was one of 20 people chosen from around the country to be a member of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership Local Leaders Advisory Committee.  The Committee’s mission is to provide counsel and input in further developing Safe Routes to Schools programs and approaches. Members are committed to ensuring that children of all races, income levels and abilities can safely walk and bicycle to and from schools and as part of their daily activities. Committee members are also working to make communities safe, active, equitable and healthy.

 

Committee members will:

  • Discuss existing Safe Routes to School issues to identify best practices and areas in which more research or resources are needed;

  • Identify emerging Safe Routes to School policy and practice issues;

  • Provide linkages to others within their communities/states/membership organizations to help expand the reach of the National Partnership and the Safe Routes to School movement;

  • Provide input on National Partnership publications, special projects or training modules as needs arise, including sharing local examples and reviewing content;

  • Discuss communications needs for the movement to better target parents and youth, including through social media;

  • Assist the National Partnership with publicizing webinars, publications, conferences and other items to expand their reach and effectiveness;

  • Discuss opportunities to partner, when there is mutual benefit, on fundraising applications or fee-for-service work; and

  • Offer a leadership opportunity for local Safe Routes to School leaders to connect with and inform the national SRTS movement and collaborate and brainstorm with colleagues around the country.
