Metro Board Approves Fare Changes/Service Cuts Affecting Montgomery County to Begin July 1

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 27, 2017


The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) Board has approved the following service and fare changes that will affect transit riders in Montgomery County:

  • Elimination of J5 bus service between Twinbrook and Silver Spring

  • Elimination of I-270 Express J7 and J9 service beginning October 2017

  • Reduced frequency of T2 service on River Road

  • Elimination of weekend B30 service between Greenbelt and BWI Airport and reduction of frequency to once an hour during weekdays

  • Reduced frequency for the Z7 Laurel to Burtonsville Express

  • Increase of Metrorail peak hour fares by 10 cents

  • Increase of Metrorail off-peak hour fares by 25 cents

  • Increase of local bus fares by 25 cents

  • Increase of express bus fares by 25 cents
