MCDOT to Replace Piney Meetinghouse Road Bridge over Watts Branch

MCDOT to replace this deteriorated bridge

MCDOT will close Piney Meetinghouse road from about June 26 through September 1 to replace the 1950-vintage Piney Meetinghouse Road Bridge over Watts Branch. The bridge is located about 2,600 feet north of the intersection of River Road and Piney Meetinghouse Road in Potomac. The 24-foot-wide bridge will be replaced with a bridge that has a roadway of the same width but also includes four-foot shoulders to accommodate on-road bicyclists and pedestrians.

 

The project also includes measures to rehabilitate Watts Branch, reduce stream erosion, improve stormwater management and install and establish trees. Accelerated bridge construction techniques will be used to minimize the disruption to the traveling public and local community.

 

MCDOT will establish a detour route for vehicles. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. with temporary lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Occasional Saturday work may be required to if construction is delayed by weather.
