are Focus of Council’s Radio America Show
on Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
Councilmember George Leventhal and experts on firearms and gun policy will discuss the issue of gun violence on WACA 1540

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct 5, 2017—Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal, who chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee; David Smyth, retired special forces and gun expert; Eugenio Weigend, representative of the Center for American Progress; and Captain William Montgomery of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) are the featured guests on the Friday, Oct. 6 broadcast of En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), a weekly show on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). They will discuss the topic of gun control and issues related to gun violence.

In light of the tragic gun attack in Las Vegas on October 1 that killed 59 people and injured more than 500 others, the topic of adopting new legislation and restrictions to prevent future attacks has regained prominence. Councilmember Leventhal will talk about this nationwide discussion in the context of Montgomery County and Maryland.

David Smyth and Eugenio Weigend will discuss the pros and cons of adopting new methods and legislation regarding guns in the United States. Capt. Montgomery will share strategies for staying safe and secure during a live shooter situation or a terror attack.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one- hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
