MCDOT has signed an operating agreement with Mobike, making Montgomery County the first suburban jurisdiction in the U.S. and only the second jurisdiction in the country to adopt this dockless bike share system. Mobike is the largest bike-sharing platform in the world. The dockless bikes will be available in Silver Spring in October.
To use Mobike, individuals download an app onto their phone, and use it to register with Mobike, locate a nearby bike and unlock it by scanning the QR code. Once at their destination, the bicyclist just parks the bike in an approved, public space.
MCDOT’s pilot project agreement with Mobike will test the concept of dockless bikes in Montgomery County.
