Montgomery County Department of Transportation to Host Open Houses for US 29 BRT

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, November 8, 2017

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is hosting three upcoming open houses to keep the public informed regarding the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line being developed along a 13.5 mile stretch of U.S. Route 29 between the Silver Spring Transit Center and Burtonsville. The new line is expected to begin service in 2020 and will be the first of its kind in Maryland.

When it is complete, the BRT will feature limited stops, off-board fare collection, priority signaling, Wi-Fi, and level-boarding through all doors to provide a faster ride. Stations will have real-time travel information.

The open houses will highlight how the BRT may provide residents and commuters an easier, faster, more reliable, and less stressful way to travel. There will be information about all aspects of the project, displays, opportunities to share feedback, and a children’s activity area.

The open houses are scheduled for the following dates:

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2017 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2017 7 - 9 p.m.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2017 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

The three open houses will provide identical information. Sign language interpretation and other assistive services will be provided upon request. Contact Darcy Buckley at 240-777-7166 or send a request to darcy.buckley@montgomerycountymd.gov.
