Montgomery Council Committees Continue to Review County Executive’s Recommended Fiscal Year 2018 Savings Plan
On Jan. 19 the Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy & Environment Committee and the Public Safety Committee will meet separately to review recommended budget reductions

Rockville, Md., Jan. 18, 2018− The Montgomery County Council’s Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy & Environment (T&E) Committee will meet on Friday at 10:00 a.m. and the Public Safety (PS) Committee will meet at 2:00 p.m. to review and discuss the County Executive’s recommended FY18 Savings Plan.

The FY18 Savings Plan is based on Department of Finance estimates that indicate lower than expected income tax revenue. Savings plans are not unusual. In FY16 the County Executive proposed a $50.8 million savings plan, and the Council approved $54.2 million in savings. The Executive’s plan calls for $60 million in operating budget savings and $13 million in capital projects savings to reduce costs in the current year. A Council vote on the plan is tentatively scheduled for January 30.

The T&E Committee, which is chaired by Councilmember Roger Berliner and includes Councilmember Nancy Floreen and Councilmember Tom Hucker, will meet in the 7th floor Council Hearing Room. The T&E Committee will review several budgets for the Executive’s recommended FY18 Savings Plan. The Executive recommends $5,402,635 in total reductions for items under the T&E Committee’s purview, which include the Departments of Environmental Protection, General Services (including Motor Pool), and Transportation.
