County’s Employee Wellness Program is Focus of Joint Health and Human Services and Government Operations Committee on Feb. 8

ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 8, 2018—The Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee and Government Operations and Fiscal Policy (GO) Committee with meet jointly on February 8 at 9:30 a.m. in the Seventh Floor Council Hearing Room to receive an update on the County’s Employee Wellness Program. The HHS Committee is chaired by Councilmember George Leventhal and includes Councilmember Roger Berliner and Councilmember Craig Rice. The GO Committee is chaired by Council Vice President Nancy Navarro and includes Council President Hans Riemer and Councilmember Sidney Katz.

The Office of Human Resources will update the HHS and GO Committee on the Employee Wellness Program. This program, now in its third year, has the goal of creating a culture of wellness for employees and their families. Issues to be discussed include health insurance data analysis and trends, the Virgin Pulse Live Well Program and other wellness program initiatives.

After the joint meeting at approximately 10:15 a.m., the HHS Committee and GO Committee will meet separately. The HHS Committee will receive an overview of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Capital Budget and FY19-24 Capital Improvements Program, which will include a review of the Avery Road Treatment Center project and updates on improvements to other Department of Health and Human Services facilities. The meeting will take place in the Third Floor Conference Room.

The GO Committee will review Ethics Commission Regulations 22-16AM, Ethics Regulations, and Executive Regulation 4-17, Police Outside Employment.

Regulation 22-16AM establishes Commission policies and procedures for addressing violations of the Public Ethics law, delineates administrative policies and procedures for outside employment requests, and provides guidance concerning misuse of prestige of office and improper influence and gift acceptance.

Executive Regulation 4-17 establishes rules for police officers in the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) who have secondary employment.

The GO Committee also will review estimates for 2019 franchise cable revenue levels, which are expected to produce approximately $29 million. The Committee will look at the proposed distribution of these funds through the Cable Plan and provide guidance on priorities associated with communications and technology.
