For Immediate Release: Monday, April 9, 2018
The Department of Liquor Control (DLC) will close two of its retail stores effective July 1, 2018. The DLC stores slated for closure are Pike Liquor & Wine, located at 832-836 Rockville Pike, and Milestone Liquor & Wine, located at 20946 Frederick Road, Unit D1. Both closures are part of a larger modernization effort that will help facilitate the long-term success of the department, especially the retail portion of the business.
“One of the DLC’s central goals is to ensure that we are driving profitable sales,” said Robert Dorfman, director of the DLC. “And, in order to do so, we must consider the proximity between stores, our geographic footprint, as well as the appearance and functionality of our stores.”
In 2016, the DLC opened one of its newest retail stores in Downtown Rockville, less than two miles from the Pike location. This new store, located 300 North Washington Street, has a more modern look and feel, two tasting bars, and dedicated parking -- all of which are designed to improve the shopping experience for DLC customers.
The Seneca Meadows store, located at 20650 Seneca Meadows Parkway, Suite 2, opened for business in 2013. In addition to its larger size, Seneca Meadows offers a wider product assortment and delivers an equally convenient location, located across the street from the Milestone store.
“We are and will continue to pursue the very best locations possible; and are planning to renovate and refresh our current retail stores,” said Dorfman.
Throughout the month of May, there will be an inventory reduction sale at the Pike and Milestone stores and both stores will close their doors to the public on Saturday, May 26, 2018. The DLC will host grand reopening celebrations at the Downtown Rockville and Seneca Meadows stores.
Although the DLC is closing two of its stores, all existing staff will be transferred to other locations.
