ROCKVILLE, Md., April 20, 2018—Councilmember Sidney Katz is the featured guests on today’s episode of “En Sintonia con el Concejo del Condado” (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing at 2:30 p.m. on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). Councilmember Katz represents District 3, which includes Gaithersburg, Rockville, Washington Grove, Leisure World, and parts of Aspen Hill, Derwood, North Potomac and Potomac. He is the Lead Councilmember for Behavioral Health in the Justice System on the Public Safety Committee and a member of the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee.

In the first segment of the program, Councilmember Katz will be joined by Claudia Cubas, representative of the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition. They will discuss the special appropriation introduced at the Council to add $373,957 to the fiscal year 2018 operating budget that would assist the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition in providing legal counsel to residents who have been detained and face deportation proceedings.

Councilmember Katz also will discuss staffing for the Adult Drug Court. The Health and Human Services and Public Safety Committees reviewed the operating budget for the Adult Drug Court at a meeting this morning. He also will discuss the naming of a new elementary school in the Richard Montgomery cluster after Bayard Rustin, a gay man who was a leader in the civil rights movement.

On the second half of “En Sintonia,” Ronald Valdez of the Maryland Insurance Administration will join the program to discuss the importance of acquiring health, homeowners’ and car insurance.
