Ride On Route Changes to Begin Sunday, May 13

For Immediate Release: Friday, May 4, 2018

On Sunday, May 13, Ride On will begin service improvements on select routes, initiate improved service along US. Route 29 and reroute a section of the Route 2 during reconstruction of the Lyttonsville Place Bridge. Ride On regularly assesses the need for service improvements and makes those changes every year in January, May and September.

The improvements that begin on May 13 include:

New Route 129 Service

Add new limited-stop rush hour service, weekdays from 5:30 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 7 p.m., along US 29 to provide service every 15 minutes between Burtonsville and the Silver Spring Transit Center. Route 129 stops will include the Burtonsville Park and Ride Lot, the Briggs Chaney Park and Ride Lot, Castle Boulevard and Castle Boulevard Circle, the Tech Road Park and Ride Lot, Stewart Lane and Old Columbia Pike, Stewart Lane and April Lane, Lockwood Drive and July Drive, Lockwood Drive and the White Oak Transit Center, Lockwood Drive and New Hampshire Avenue, Lockwood Drive and Northwest Drive, Lockwood Drive and Meadowhill Road, Burnt Mills Shopping Center on US 29, University Boulevard and US 29, temporarily at Noyes Street and US 29 (southbound only), Fenton Street and US 29 (northbound only), and the Silver Spring Transit Center. The stop at Noyes will be relocated to Spring Street and US 29 after current construction at Spring Street is completed.

Temporary Rerouting of Route 2 into Route 2A and Route 2B

In advance of Purple Line reconstruction of the Lyttonsville Place Bridge by the Maryland Transit Administration, Route 2 service will split into two routes: Route 2A (daily) and Route 2B (Monday to Friday, rush hour only). MTA’s project schedule has not yet been finalized; however, we anticipate this change will continue through the end of 2018.  From the Silver Spring Transit Center, Route 2A daily service will run along East West Highway, loop around Lyttonsville, and return to East West Highway back towards the Silver Spring Transit Center. Route 2B rush hour service will serve the Forest Glen Annex – Fort Detrick commuters to and from the Silver Spring Transit Center. Route 2B will travel along Colesville Road, 16th Street, 2nd Avenue and Brookville Road, towards the Ride On Operations Center. These temporary routes are designed to provide access to locations to the north and south of the bridge.
