Wheaton TGIF Summer Concert Series continues with ‘Sin Miedo’ in a free performance at 7 p.m., Friday, August 10, at Wheaton Veterans Urban Park

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 7, 2018

The Wheaton TGIF Concert Series will continue at 7 p.m. Friday, August 10, as “Sin Miedo” highlights the fifth of the six free summer concerts at Wheaton Veterans Urban Park.

The park is located at 11200 Amherst Ave. and Reedie Drive in Wheaton (behind the Safeway supermarket and one block from the Wheaton Metro Station). Attendees are advised to bring chairs or blankets to better enjoy the outdoor atmosphere.

Sin Miedo is recognized as one of the Washington area’s top Salsa bands. “Sin Miedo” is Spanish for "Fearless" and this group performs that way. Led by French pianist Didier Prossaird, the name sums up the band's attitude toward music.

Sin Miedo has been performing in the Washington/Baltimore area for the past 20 years. At times, it has collaborated with Salsa greats Tito Allen and Frankie Vasquez. The band also has toured the U.S. and abroad with the Washington Ballet and played for musical theater in many of Teatro Gala's productions. The band’s playlist includes Salsa classics ranging from the 70's to today, as well as original music with Spanish and French lyrics.

Sin Miedo has released four albums: "Mama Linda" in 1999, "La Clave" in 2002, "Estoy Enamorado" in 2009 and "The New Salsa Standards,” which was a live album recorded in Washington in 2011.

A past review in The Washington Post said: "Sin Miedo is a truly international group that makes the Afrocuban rhythms of Salsa jump into your blood stream and move your hips around.”

The Wheaton TGIF Concert Series is hosted by the Wheaton Urban District in partnership with Montgomery County Parks. Concerts will be held the second and fourth Fridays of July and August.

The final concert in this summer’s series will be at 7 p.m. on August 24 featuring The Nighthawks.
