Montgomery County Celebrates Active Aging Week

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 13, 2018

The Montgomery County departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Recreation (MCR), and Public Libraries (MCPL) are partnering with and joining other agencies, community organizations, nonprofits and local hospitals to celebrate Active Aging Week the week of Sept. 23 through 29. This national initiative promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by offering older adults opportunities to experience diverse activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere.

“Montgomery County is home to a number of seniors who are looking for opportunities to stay active and involved,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “Active Aging Week is a great opportunity to showcase the wide range of activities our County departments provide every day to ensure our seniors are active and engaged.”

The theme of Active Aging Week is “Inspiring Wellness.” During the week, over 90 free events, activities and programs will showcase opportunities for older adults to grow, learn, have fun and stay fit at different organizations and agencies located throughout the County.

MCR will offer over 50 activities at 20 different sites throughout the County. From arts and crafts to pickleball and Zumba, there are hundreds of Recreation activities for individuals 55+ every week. With five senior centers and 13 active adult program sites, MCR has something for everyone’s schedule and lifestyle.
