ROCKVILLE, Md., September 14, 2018—Marilyn Lovo, Program Manager at the nonprofit organization Ayuda; and Aurelio Martinez and Julio Güity, advocates for the Afro-Latino community, will be the featured guests on this week’s episode of En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), airing Friday, September 14 at 2:30 p.m. on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). In the first segment of the show, Marilyn Lovo will discuss how Latino residents of the County are benefiting from the Language Access Program, which has the mission of removing language barriers to accessing services for residents of the Washington metropolitan area. She also will discuss how grants from Montgomery County are helping residents take advantage of the program.

In the second half of the program, Aurelio Martinez and Julio Güity will talk about the importance of the Afro-Latino community, their origins and the unique circumstances and challenges they face today, including their advocacy for being included as an ethnicity in the United States Census.

This segment is part of the Council's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which lasts from September 15 to October 15. The Council will hold a special commemoration on October 9 at 11 a.m. in the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville. The event is open to the public.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions.
