Councilmember Sidney Katz to host free Senior Forum and Resource Fair at Twinbrook Community Recreation Center in Rockville on Friday, October 19

Forum’s “Senior Safety” theme focuses on avoiding senior scams, fire prevention, public safety in the senior community and spotting elder abuse

ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 17, 2018—Montgomery County Councilmember Sidney Katz, who represents Council District 3, which includes Gaithersburg, Rockville, Washington Grove, Leisure World and parts of Aspen Hill, Derwood, North Potomac and Potomac, will host a Senior Forum and Resource Fair at the Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 19. The forum, entitled “Senior Safety,” will focus on four major areas: avoiding senior scams, fire prevention and safety, public safety in the senior community and spotting elder abuse. It will be accompanied by an informational resource fair showcasing a wide range of senior service providers.

The Senior Forum and Resource Fair is free and open to the public. The resource fair opens at 9:30 am. The tables will close when the speakers begin at 10 a.m. – their presentations will continue until 11:30 a.m. Attendees are invited to continue to visit with the resource fair providers until 12:15 p.m.

Councilmember Katz, the former Mayor of Gaithersburg, serves on the Public Safety (PS) Committee as its lead member for Behavioral Health in the Justice System. The PS Committee has jurisdiction over the County’s consumer protection programs and public safety issues affecting seniors. Councilmember Katz’s district includes the City of Rockville.

  • Jim Resnick, Program Manager, Senior Outreach & Education, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service
  • Dana Stroman, Community Services Officer, 2nd District, Montgomery County Police Department
