ROCKVILLE, Md., December 13, 2018—Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro will be the featured guest on this week’s episode of En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), airing Friday, December 14 at 2:30 p.m. on Radio America (WACA 1540AM). Council President Navarro will highlight her leadership vision and plans for the year ahead. She also will discuss what it means for the Council to have four newly-elected Councilmembers.
Council President Navarro will discuss her priorities for the coming year, which include closing the opportunity gap in academic achievement; expanding early child care and early childhood education; implementing a senior agenda for the county’s aging population; redeveloping and revitalizing areas of the county and creating more jobs; expanding civic engagement; and making the county more business-friendly.
“We all depend on each other,” said Council President Navarro. “We all share the same need for a government that encourages economic growth, protects our families, educates our children and provides a safety net in case we fall on hard times.
She also will describe the equity policy she spearheaded, which the Council approved through a resolution. This resolution commits the Council to examine the data needed to develop an equity policy framework to help eliminate disparities for residents. An equity lens would then become part of how budget, land use and legislative decisions are made.
The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.
Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
