Lane Closures Planned on Rockville Pike for Dec. 26 – 27 and Jan. 4 - 11

For Immediate Release: Saturday, December 22, 2018

From Wednesday, December 26, through Thursday, December 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., one southbound and one northbound lane of Rockville Pike will be closed between Wilson Drive and Center Drive, near NIH.

From Friday, January 4, at 9:00 p.m., through Monday, January 7, at 5:00 a.m., two lanes of northbound Rockville Pike will be closed between Glenbrook Parkway Road and Wilson Drive (NIH).

On or around, January 7, the bus stop on southbound Rockville Pike located just south of South Drive (NIH) will be moved to a temporary location just north of South Drive.

The closures are required to continue roadway, sidewalk, and bus pad reconstruction for the MD 355/Rockville Pike crossing project.

About the Crossing Project:

This work is part of the ongoing construction of the Crossing Project at the Medical Center Metro Station, which will build: 1) A shallow, pedestrian underpass connecting the National Institutes of Health and the bus/commuter transit center on the west side with the Naval Support Activity Bethesda/Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on the east side of Rockville Pike; and 2) Deep elevators on the Navy side of MD 355 to the Metrorail mezzanine.  When completed by the end of 2021, the Crossing will provide a safer environment for people and vehicles in this heavily trafficked area.

A Safety Reminder:

As construction of the Crossing Project at the Medical Center Metro Station continues, residents are reminded to exercise caution as they walk, bike or travel near the construction zone. Pay attention to all posted signs, walk or bike only on designated crosswalks, sidewalks and paths, and do not walk in the road or in the construction zone. Release ID: 18-223
