Purple Line Transit Partners Has Opened New Lyttonsville Place Bridge; MCDOT to Close Temporary Connection at Stewart Avenue at Noon on Thursday, January 10

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Purple Line Transit Partners has opened the new Lyttonsville Place bridge in Silver Spring. The new bridge has one lane in each direction for vehicle traffic and an area for pedestrians: Later in 2019, crews will complete the remainder of the bridge, including sidewalks, drop-off lanes and access to the future Lyttonsville Station and Capital Crescent Trail. Pedestrian and vehicle access across the bridge will be maintained while construction is completed.

To accommodate traffic while the bridge was closed, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) opened a connection at Stewart Avenue. MCDOT will close the temporary Stewart Avenue connection at noon on Thursday, January 10.

Ride On Route 2, which used the Lyttonsville Place bridge, had previously been split into Route 2A and Route 2B while the bridge was under construction.  Now that the bridge has been reopened, Route 2 will be reinstated on Friday, January 11.

In June 2018, the Lyttonsville Place Bridge was closed to allow Purple Line Transit Constructors to build a replacement bridge. The Lyttonsville Place bridge is located between Lyttonsville Road and Brookville Road, near East-West Highway and 16th Street in Silver Spring.
