Lane and Sidewalk Closures, Bus Stop Relocation Planned on Rockville Pike and Jones Bridge Road for Jan. 14 – 18 (Weekend Lane Closures Jan.11-14 Cancelled)

For Immediate Release: Saturday, January 12, 2019

Previously announced weekend lane closures for January 11, 9:00 p.m., through Monday, January 14, at 5:00 a.m., have been cancelled due to snow forecasts.

From Monday, January 14, through Friday, January 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the southbound curb lane of Rockville Pike and adjacent sidewalk will be closed between Center Drive (NIH) and Woodmont Avenue.

From Monday, January 14, through Friday, January 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., one westbound curb lane of Jones Bridge Road will be closed approaching MD 355 (Rockville Pike).

On or around, January 17, the bus stop on southbound Rockville Pike located just south of South Drive (NIH) will be moved to a temporary location just north of South Drive.

The closures are required to continue roadway, sidewalk, bus pad, and backfill reconstruction for the MD 355/Rockville Pike crossing project.

About the Crossing Project:

This work is part of the ongoing construction of the Crossing Project at the Medical Center Metro Station, which will build: 1) A shallow, pedestrian underpass connecting the National Institutes of Health and the bus/commuter transit center on the west side with the Naval Support Activity Bethesda/Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on the east side of Rockville Pike; and 2) Deep elevators on the Navy side of MD 355 to the Metrorail mezzanine.  When completed by the end of 2021, the Crossing will provide a safer environment for people and vehicles in this heavily trafficked area.

A Safety Reminder:

As construction of the Crossing Project at the Medical Center Metro Station continues, residents are reminded to exercise caution as they walk, bike or travel near the construction zone. Pay attention to all posted signs, walk or bike only on designated crosswalks, sidewalks and paths, and do not walk in the road or in the construction zone. Release ID: 19-009
