Council President Navarro’s comments on County Executive Elrich’s Fiscal Year 2020 Recommended Capital Budget

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 16, 2019

ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 16, 2019—Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro made the following comments today after County Executive Marc Elrich released his recommended fiscal year (FY) 2020 Capital Budget and Amendments to the FY19-24 Capital Improvements program (CIP):

“County Executive Elrich’s recommended FY20 Capital Budget and Amendments to the FY19-24 CIP has tried to reconcile the County’s competing needs with our limited resources. Now we will work together to review and pursue all available funding options to meet our critical infrastructure needs with a focus on school construction. The capital budget shows a significant reduction in revenue estimates of about $122 million at a time of increased infrastructure needs and burgeoning enrollment in our school system. I look forward to reviewing the County Executive’s recommendations with my Council colleagues.”

The Council’s public hearings on the capital budget is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in testifying at the public hearings can sign up online starting tomorrow, Jan. 17, 2019 at http://tinyurl.com/hl3mpdx or by calling 240-777-7803. The Council also encourages residents to use #MoCoFY20CapitalBudget to communicate their views on the capital budget via social media.
