Call for Entries: 2019 Girl Power Contest

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 1, 2019

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Montgomery County Commission for Women is inviting residents to participate in its third annual Girl Power Contest. Submissions should address the question, “If you had a superpower, how would you use that power to help girls and women?”

Montgomery County residents between the ages of 5 and 105 are encouraged to submit a short story, poem, drawing, or anything else that addresses the contest theme. Entries will be judged on creativity and content; entrants should refrain from using vulgarities and racist or sexist comments or images. Winning entries will be selected from four categories: elementary, middle, high school and adult.

The contest is sponsored by the Montgomery County Commission for Women, Montgomery Magazine and Friends of the Library. Top entries will appear in Montgomery Magazine. All contest winners will be featured on the Commission for Women website and receive a swag bag, a photo with commissioners, and an invitation to be a guest of honor at a Montgomery County Commission for Women event of the winner’s choice.

Submissions will be accepted through March 30, and are limited to one per person. Written entries should be no more than 500 words. Entries should include full name, age, grade and school (if applicable), phone number, and email address. Entries will not be returned. Winners will be announced by April 30.
