Elrich Proclaims International Women’s Day in Montgomery County

In honor of Women’s History Month, County Executive Marc Elrich proclaims March 8, 2019 as International Women’s Day in Montgomery County. The United Nations (UN) first established International Women’s Day in 1975 to affirm the principle of equality between men and women.

“On International Women’s Day, I want to also recognize it here in Montgomery County,” said Elrich. “I encourage people to read the recent report from the Montgomery Commission for Women that documents some important accomplishments and identifies areas where we still need to improve.”

UN Women has declared this year’s theme as: “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change.” The theme promotes leveraging innovation and technology in creating opportunities for women and girls, as well as advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services, and sustainable infrastructure.
