Council Committee Meetings on March 18

The following committee meetings are scheduled for Monday, March 18. Individuals interested in attending a committee meeting should confirm the information on the day of the meeting by visiting the Council’s web page at tinyurl.com/CountyCouncilMeetings or by calling the Council’s Communications Office at 240-777-7931. All meetings are held in the Council Office Building (100 Maryland Ave., Rockville, Md.), unless otherwise noted.

Meeting: Transportation and Environment (T&E) Committee
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: Seventh floor hearing room
T&E Committee: Councilmember Tom Hucker (chair), Councilmembers Evan Glass and Hans Riemer
Topic:
Bill 36-18, Transportation Management - Transportation Demand Management Plan - Amendments
The T&E Committee will review Bill 36-18, Transportation Management - Transportation Demand Management Plan - Amendments. Council President Nancy Navarro is the lead sponsor at the request of the County Executive. The Department of Transportation briefed the Committee on how the current TDM system works and how this would change the system. Bill 36-18 would expand the County's use of transportation demand management (TDM) to reduce traffic congestion and automobile emissions, support multi-modalism and achievement of non-automobile travel goals, enhance the efficient use of transportation infrastructure, and promote sustainability of existing and future development.

Meeting: Planning, Housing & Economic Development (PHED) Committee
Time: 2 p.m.

PHED Committee: Councilmember Hans Riemer (chair), Councilmembers Andrew Friedson and Will Jawando.
Topic:
Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) 19-01, Accessory Residential Uses - Accessory Apartments
The PHED Committee will continue reviewing the zoning changes recommended for accessory dwelling units (ADU’s). The goal of ZTA 19-01 is to increase affordable housing options for residents. Councilmember Hans Riemer is the lead sponsor. The Committee may make recommendations at its next meeting on March 28. ADU’s are dwelling units that are secondary to one’s principle residence and are also known as accessory apartments or in-law suites.
