“One Stop Fair Housing Shop” to be Held April 30

April is Fair Housing Month, a time to celebrate the successes made in attaining equal housing opportunities for all, and a time to raise awareness about discriminatory practices that continue to exist.

The County’s Office of Human Rights will host the “One Stop Fair Housing Shop” seminar/workshop for the housing industry professionals, realtors, property managers, housing advocates, landlords, human service, housing providers, condominium and home owner associations and others interested in housing issues to increase awareness of fair housing information.

The event be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at the Silver Spring Civic Building located at 1 Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring.

Housing guidelines for individuals who require disability accommodations, sources of income, arrest records, service animal and assist animals are key topics that will be discussed by Montgomery County representatives, representatives from state regulatory agencies, HUD Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity and the Equal Rights Center. There will be updates on current federal, state and County compliance and regulations.

A certificate of training will be awarded to those who have registered and attend all workshop sessions. Late arrivals are not eligible for certification.

Montgomery County Office of Human Rights, the Interagency Fair Housing Coordinating Group and the Equal Rights Center sponsor the event.

This is a free event, however to ensure there are enough materials and lunch for everyone, online registration is requested.
