Fifth Annual Montgomery County GreenFest Will Be Held Jointly with Brookside Gardens’ Earth Day Celebration in Wheaton on Sunday, April 28

For Immediate Release: Thursday, April 25, 2019

The Fifth Annual Montgomery County GreenFest—a free celebration of the environment—this year will be hosted by Montgomery Parks at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton. The full day of family activities and learning opportunities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.

Brookside Gardens is located at 1800 Glenallan Ave. Guests are advised to utilize the free parking and shuttle service that will be available at the Glenmont Metro Station during event hours.

Greenfest this year will combine with Brookside Gardens’ annual Earth Day celebration, bringing two festivities to one site. GreenFest, the County’s premier environmental festival, will feature fun for the whole family including entertainment, exhibitors, live music and dance performances, a native plant sale, tree climbing, an electric vehicle display, food trucks and interactive workshops. It provides an opportunity to share ideas and learn about local environmental initiatives. Exhibitor and vendor registration already is full.

The new location will enable Greenfest participants to enjoy Brookside Gardens, the award-winning, 50-acre display of gardens and nature situated within Wheaton Regional Park. Pets are not allowed in Brookside Gardens, although service animals are welcome. Greenfest visitors also will have the opportunity to enjoy the open space, walking trails and wildlife that call Brookside home.

GreenFest is planned by a coalition of partners including the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection; Montgomery Parks; the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission; the cities of Gaithersburg, Takoma Park and Rockville; the University of Maryland Extension; Montgomery County Public Schools; and local community green group Bethesda Green, One Montgomery Green and Poolesville Green.
