ROCKVILLE, Md., May 15, 2019—The Montgomery County Council at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, is scheduled to reach agreement on the County’s Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) Operating Budget, the FY20 Capital Budget and amendments to the FY19-24 Capital Improvements Program. As part of the meeting, the Council is scheduled to reach agreement on its budget reconciliation list, which includes funding for essential County programs and community needs that were not in the County Executive’s FY20 Recommended Operating Budget.
For the last six weeks, the Council has intensely reviewed the County’s operating budget after holding five public hearings to get input from residents about community needs and recommended service enhancements. On Thursday, May 23, the Council will formally adopt the budget, which will go into effect on July 1.

The Council will begin its meeting with a public hearing, followed by a scheduled vote, on a supplemental appropriation to the FY19 Operating Budget, Montgomery County Public Schools - $4,000,000 for new curriculum. The supplemental appropriation is needed to provide spending authority for the purchase of curriculum, instructional materials, and professional development necessary to implement the new curriculum for prekindergarten through grade 8 English language arts and mathematics. The source of funds is unappropriated MCPS Fund Balance revenue.

The Council meeting will be held in the third floor hearing room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The session will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM).
