MCDOT celebrates the contributions of all its transportation professionals who provide and maintain public facilities and services during National Public Works Week, May 19-25.

This year, MCDOT marked the occasion early with its MCDOT Day and Truck Show held at the Gaithersburg Depot on Saturday, May 11. A community celebration, the event featured a day of fun with the trucks that do the hard work of keeping Montgomery County safe, healthy and comfortable. Hundreds of kids of all ages came out to enjoy demonstrations on a wide range of vehicles, including a claw truck, gradall, bucket truck, dump truck and loader. Other on-site fleet included a flusher truck, sidewalk snow removal equipment, skidloader, patch truck, leafing truck, plow truck, salt brine truck, backhoe and line painting truck.

The American Public Works Association, the sponsor of National Public Works Week, highlights the role public works professionals play in keeping communities safe and functioning smoothly. It works to increase public awareness of the contributions, duties and goals of public works professionals—a category that includes those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and refuse removal systems as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds.
