Montgomery County Recreation announces the opening season of its seven outdoor pools at noon on Saturday, May 25.

The outdoor pools include the following:

  • Bethesda Pool, 301-652-1598, 6300 Hillandale Road, Bethesda;
  • Germantown Outdoor Pool, 240-777-8067, 18905 Kingsview Road, Germantown;
  • Long Branch Pool, 301-431-5700, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring;
  • Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Outdoor Pool, 240-777-8066, 1201 Jackson Road, Silver Spring;
  • Sergeant Hector I. Ayala Wheaton/Glenmont Pool, 301-929-5460, 12621 Dalewood Drive, Wheaton;
  • Upper County Outdoor Pool, 301-840-2446, 8211 Emory Grove Road, Gaithersburg; and
  • Sara E. Auer Western County Outdoor Pool, 301-349-2217, 20151 Fisher Avenue, Poolesville.

During the preseason, pool hours are noon – 6 p.m. on weekends and Memorial Day.

During the summer season (June 15 - August 16), outdoor pool hours are noon to 8 p.m. on weekends, and 1 to 8 p.m. during weekdays except for the Sarah E. Auer Western Outdoor Pool, which opens at noon. The Long Branch and Upper County Pools are closed on Fridays during the summer season. For more information about pool hours, visit the Montgomery County Recreation website.

Daily admission is $5 for County residents (ages 1-17), $7 for adults and $6 for seniors (age 55 and over). Admission for pool visitors who live outside the County is $15.

The slide at the Upper County Outdoor Pool will be closed for the summer as crews work to repair damage caused over the winter months.

At the Germantown and Wheaton/Glenmont pools, the water features, including the slides and tumble buckets, will be turned on beginning June 15.

As the summer swim season gets underway, residents are encouraged to become familiar with the safety rules posted at the pools. Children are most at risk for water-related accidents and it is important they are always closely supervised while in and around the pool. Because safety is a priority, it may be necessary to temporarily halt admission to pools when capacity is reached. Additional swimmers will be admitted as soon as space becomes available.

Early admission and reserved ticketing are new this year for the MLK Outdoor Pool on July 4. All outdoor pools will open at noon on July 4 for County residents only. Non-County residents will be admitted beginning at 1 p.m. on July 4. Montgomery County residents are also now able to purchase pre-sale tickets to the MLK Outdoor Pool to reserve their entry to the pool on July 4. Pool visitors are allowed to bring food and drink to the pools. For information about pool passes, amenities and hours of operation at all swimming pools, visit the Montgomery County Recreation website.
