Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control to Host Whiskey Rocks at Burtonsville Store on Friday, June 14

The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) is hosting its biannual Whiskey Rocks celebration from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 14, at the Burtonsville Liquor & Wine store. The store is located at 15620 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. 

There will be a number of highly sought items available for purchase.These allocated items will be offered for purchase to anyone 21 or older on a first-come, first-serve basis, at random drawings or during specific release times during the event.

In addition, the event will feature special releases of an expanded barrel program, three free seminars (registration links are posted online) and a pre-celebration dinner at the Dogfish Head restaurant in Gaithersburg on Thursday, June 13. Register for the dinner by visiting the DLC website.

“Anyone who loves whiskey will love Whiskey Rocks. We are very excited to be able to provide our customers with unique products and experiences,” said Robert Dorfman, director of the DLC. “This is a great opportunity to come out and try new products, meet other Whiskey enthusiasts and purchase special bottles for yourself or for Father’s Day.”

The Whiskey Rocks event schedule:

  • 10 a.m. Highly allocated whiskey offerings and a Buffalo Trace Barrel selection release. Allocated whiskey offerings available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis will include: Elijah Craig 18-Year, Michter’s Barrel Strength, Stagg Jr., Mister Sam Tribute, Blood Oath Pact No. 5, Kentucky Owl Confiscated Bourbon, Pendelton Directors’ Reserve and Old Fitzgerald 13-Year Bottled-in-Bond. (Limit one bottle per customer.)
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Maryland-made tastings and lunch. A chance to taste four local favorites: McClintock, Twin Valley, Tenth Ward and Old Line. Free hot dogs will be served in the parking lot, courtesy of Buffalo Trace. No purchase necessary (available while supplies last).
  • Noon – 12:45 p.m. Dogfish Head whiskey seminar. Registration is now open. 
  • Noon – 2 p.m. Kavalan Whisky tasting: a Taiwanese whiskey tasting. An opportunity to try the new Kavalan Distillery Select. 
  • 2 p.m. Special Release – Japanese Whisky Hakushu 12-Year and Yamazaki Single Malt 12-Year will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limit one bottle of each per customer.
  • 2 – 2:45 p.m. Hibiki Japanese Harmony and Yamazaki Single Malt 18-Year raffle.
  • 2 – 5 p.m. Japanese whiskey tastings: Will include Suntory Toki Whisky and Legent Bourbon. Bottle engraving will be available from 2 – 4 p.m. for any Beam Suntory products purchased.
  • 3 – 5 p.m. Barrell Bourbon and Compass Box tastings.
  • 4 – 4:45 p.m. Elijah Craig seminar. Registration full.
  • 5 p.m. Elijah Craig 8-Year and 9-Year Barrel selections release.
  • 5 – 6 p.m. Elijah Craig tasting: A comparative tasting of Elijah Craig Small Batch, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof 12-Year and the Elijah Craig 8-Year and 9-Year Barrel selections.
  • 5 – 7:30 p.m. Glenmorangie and Ardbeg tasting and engraving.
  • 6 p.m. Buffalo Trace Barrel Selection release.
  • 6 – 7 p.m. Buffalo Trace and Isaac Bowman tasting.
  • 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. Glenmorangie Distillery and Mixology seminar. Registration will open on Friday, June 7, at noon.
