Transportation chair asks board to defer proposal
for revisions that incorporate local solutions

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 5, 2019—Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker, chair of the council’s Transportation and Environment Committee, testifies today at a meeting of the Maryland Board of Public Works on Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) plans to create a public-private partnership to widen the Capital Beltway and I-270, and add managed toll lanes. Councilmember Hucker asks the Board to defer approval of the proposal today in order to make locally-improved improvements and protect taxpayers.

“The managed lanes proposal is well-intentioned and has many strong elements, but we’re asking you to defer approval today and direct MDOT to include the amendments we sent you earlier this week and win the support of local officials — as has always been done in large transportation projects like the ICC, the Purple Line and the Wilson Bridge,” Hucker said.
