Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control Wins Five National Association of Counties Awards

For Immediate Release: Monday, June 10, 2019

The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) has won five Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards cover five separate categories including Children and Youth, Economic Development, Health, Criminal Justice and Public Safety and Information Technology.

“We’ve been working hard to advance our department in every way and these awards demonstrate just that,” said DLC Director Bob Dorfman. “We have an amazing team of driven employees that believe in the betterment of service to our customers and the health and safety of our community.”

The NACo award program recognizes innovative county government programs and shares them as national models.

The five awards include the following DLC programs:

Student Video Contest, Children and Youth
A contest for both middle and high school students awarding cash prizes to schools whose youth groups create the most impactful 30-second public service announcement geared toward their peers about the risks of underage drinking.

Maryland Made Program, Community and Economic Development
A program that helps ensure Maryland-made alcohol products are available at County retail stores.

FYI Program, Health
A program that offers free education, tools and customized outreach efforts to County businesses serving alcohol, during their first year of operation, to boost public safety and successful community integration.

DLC Truck Wraps, Criminal Justice and Public Safety
An ongoing media campaign featuring anti-drunk driving messages screened on the back of DLC delivery trucks.

Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) Integration, Information Technology
A software solution built to raise retail data standards and help manage inventory to improve each store’s viability and sales and increase revenue for the County.
