Montgomery County’s Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District is getting ready, set, and going for a rousing summer calendar filled with live music, films, theater, art events, annual festivals and much more. This outstanding line-up of entertainment, partnered with the fantastic shopping sites and excellent restaurants, within a short distance from the Metro, keeps this as a go-to-destination for summer fun.
Silver Spring has earned a reputation of being one of the most diverse and dynamic communities in the country, where there is always something to do and enjoy. Activities and events embrace the Arts & Entertainment District’s culture of being a welcoming community that values vibrant arts and diverse experiences.
The Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District is home to more than 100 community celebrations annually. The vast majority are organized and paid for by community and civic and arts entrepreneurs. Additionally, the County produces the Silver Spring Jazz Festival and the Silver Spring Concert Series.
Plans are underway for the annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24. The Jazz Festival will be the County’s featured end-of-the-summer celebration to give families a chance to experience Downtown Silver Spring before school starts and fall calendars fill. Like previous years, the festival will include riveting jazz musicians. The line-up and programming schedule will be announced in early July.
“We are looking forward to the Silver Spring Jazz Festival providing families in Silver Spring and surrounding communities the opportunity to spend the last summer weekend in Silver Spring to take advantage of all of the dynamic cultural, recreational and leisure opportunities available in our area,” said Reemberto Rodriguez, director for the County’s Silver Spring Regional Area.
Silver Spring Thursday Night Concerts return on Thursday, June 20, at 7 p.m. with a full line-up featuring touring artists and local favorites. From Motown to rock to oldies, the popular summer concert series has music for everyone.
The free concerts will continue each Thursday through Aug. 8. The concerts take place on Veterans Plaza located at One Veterans Place.
