The Montgomery County Volunteer Center, part of the Office of Community Partnerships, has earned a 2019 Achievement Award for its 50+ Volunteer Network. The awards are presented by the National Association of Counties (NACo) to recognize innovative county programs and share them as national models.
The 50+ Volunteer Network employs face-to-face consultations with individual volunteers and ongoing relationships with nonprofit and government agencies to effectively match skilled volunteers with organizations needing their assistance. Since the program launched in January 2018, it has successfully placed more than 150 older volunteers with opportunities that mesh with their individual experience, interests, and availability, while also improving the ability of more than 100 agencies to engage this tremendous resource.
"I am exceedingly pleased that the 50+ Volunteer Network has been recognized for its unique, personal approach to leveraging the County's rapidly growing number of retired professionals as a valuable resource for agencies," said Volunteer Center Director Molly Callaway. "It really builds upon the work we do at the Volunteer Center to foster a culture of service in our community."
The Montgomery County Volunteer connects all residents in search of volunteer opportunities with nonprofits and government agencies that need help. Its resources include an online searchable database that features thousands of volunteer opportunities suitable for professionals; retirees; students seeking Student Service Learning hours; families; and other groups.
