Residents Can Create Unique House Signs at Free Wheaton North Summer Family Event on Saturday, June 15

For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 13, 2019

Having an attractive sign announcing a house number can be an impressive added touch to the look of a home. A clear and readable number also can be important when emergency responders are trying to quickly identify the location of an incident. On Saturday, June 15, three Wheaton North civic associations will join together to sponsor a free community event that will provide residents with an opportunity to create unique house numbers under the guidance of artists.

The annual Wheaton North Summer Family Event is a day of fun, art, snacks, games and a special neighborhood beautification project. This year’s “Paint Your House Number” will be available during the event from 1-4 p.m. at Highland Elementary School located at 3100 Medway Street in Silver Spring/Wheaton.

Summer Family Day is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Avenue Estates, Glenmont Forest and Wheaton Hills civic associations. Montgomery Housing Partnership is supporting the event. Among the County departments and agencies that will be represented are the Department of Environmental Protection, County Police, the County Fire and Rescue Services, the Board of Elections and the Department of Transportation. Also present will be community organizations including One Montgomery Green, the Wheaton Arts Parade and the Montgomery County Humane Society.

At the Paint Your House Number event, cedar planks that are 5.5 inches tall and 18 inches wide will be provided for those who want to create an intriguing way to identify their house. Paints, stencils and the advice of experienced artists will help create house numbers with special personality.

In the previous two years, special beautification projects of the Summer Family Day included creating bird houses and creating and painting neighborhood planters.
Other activities and features at Summer Family Day will include mask making overseen by members of the Wheaton Arts Parade organization, face painting, hula hoops, a bubble station, popcorn (from the Parks Activation Unit), a snow cone truck, a soccer kick, a ladder ball game and music.
