ROCKVILLE, Md., June 14, 2019—Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro made the following statement after learning of the death of 35-year-old Gladis Loren Melendrez Fuentes at the Shady Grove Transfer Station located at 16101 Frederick Road in Derwood. The Montgomery County Police Department is conducting the death investigation.
“I was deeply saddened to learn that Gladis Loren Melendrez Fuentes lost her life at the Shady Grove Transfer Station after being buried under yard debris yesterday. My heart breaks for her family and friends during this difficult time of mourning.
“The Council will work with County Executive Elrich to determine what caused this horrible incident. I appreciate the work of the firefighters, emergency medical technicians, police officers and other emergency personnel who responded to this tragic call and the grief counselors who are providing services to the workers at the Shady Grove Transfer Station.”
