MCDOT Sponsors Children’s Pop Up “Traffic Garden” in Kensington on June 30

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 28, 2019

Learning to navigate our roadways safely is a big job for our littlest learners. That’s why MCDOT is participating in “Cycling in the Circle” this Sunday, June 30, at Warner Circle Park in Kensington by sponsoring a traffic garden. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 10231 Carroll Place, and families with young children are encouraged to come out with their bikes and helmets for a fun and educational event.

A traffic garden is a miniature network of city streets that is designed as a safe practice environment for children to learn the rules of the road and how to bike and walk safely. While the Kensington traffic garden is designed in chalk paint for the purposes of Sunday’s cycling event, MCDOT is hoping to find a site to develop a permanent traffic garden for the children of Montgomery County.

Organized by Friends of Warner Circle, the event is offered to help kick off a summer of safe cycling. Residents can also get a bike and helmet check, test their cycling skills on a slow riding course, collect cycle and trail maps, and more.

For those who cannot bike or walk to the event, parking is available at the Kensington Train Station, one block away at 3701 Howard Avenue. Read more.
