While MCDOT Highway Services crews remain engaged in storm damage cleanup activities, the Storm Operation Center has deactivated and returned to monitoring status. Except for Barnesville Road at Peach Tree Road, all other roadways that were closed due to high water or downed trees from Monday’s heavy rainstorms have reopened.
Belfast Road between Whiterim Terrace and Laurel Leaf Drive has temporarily reopened and temporary steel plates have been installed. The road will be closed to traffic beginning 10 am Thursday for approximately 48 hours to perform permanent repairs. Shuttle service in and out of the area will run 24 hours a day during the repair for affected residents. This closure has been coordinated with Fire and Rescue Service, the Postal Service, Montgomery County Public Schools and other stakeholders.
Two other roadways remain closed due to structural failures:
Fenway Road, between Carderock Springs Drive and Magruder Mill Court:
Utility repairs are underway, but the roadway will remain closed for the foreseeable future. A plan for permanent repairs is currently under development.
Wissioming Road, between Tuscarorwas Road and Winnebago Road:
The roadway will remain closed for the foreseeable future. A plan for culvert repairs is currently under development.
