ROCKVILLE, Md., July 25, 2019—Ashley Noy, assistant client specialist for domestic violence cases at the Family Justice Center; David del Pozo, program manager of the Latino Health Initiative (LHI); Ingrid Limaza, community health educator with LHI; and Sandra Perez Ramos and Felisa Federmann, volunteers with the Wheaton Art Parade, will be the featured guests of “El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment” on En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (Tuned in with the Montgomery County Council), this Friday, July 26 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).
The Family Justice Center is a community association that supports disadvantaged families and provides services to people who have been victims of domestic abuse and violence.
LHI is an initiative of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services to improve the quality of life of Latinos living in Montgomery County by contributing to the development and implementation of an integrated, coordinated, culturally and linguistically competent health wellness system that supports, values and respects Latino families and communities.
The Wheaton Arts Parade is an annual parade to celebrate art in Wheaton, which has the mission of uniting the community to appreciate local talent and celebrate the County’s cultural diversity. This year’s parade and festival is on Sunday, September 22.
“El Momento Cívico/The Civic Moment” is one component of Council President Navarro’s Latino Civic Project that features topics related to civic engagement and understanding the various functions of County government. Council President Navarro started the Latino Civic Project in 2012 to promote and strengthen civic participation among Latinos and immigrants. The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.
Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
