For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 1, 2019
ROCKVILLE, Md., August 1, 2019—Daniel Jones, partnership specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau; and Angela Neira, loan officer at Life Asset, will be the featured guests on En Sintonía con El Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), this Friday, August 2 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM). Daniel Jones will discuss the importance of participation in the 2020 U.S. Census. Angela Neira will share information about the services Life Assets provides as well as opportunities available for new entrepreneurs.
In April 2018 the Council introduced and adopted a resolution opposing the addition of a citizenship question on the 2020 Census Council President Nancy Navarro said that adding such a question would deter millions of immigrants, including members of Montgomery County’s Latino community, from participating. Federal judges have since blocked the Trump administration from adding such a question.
Life Asset is a Washington DC-based charitable organization that provides microfinance loans to low-income entrepreneurs, among other services.
The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.
Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
Video links with a summary of the show are available each week at the County Council's mobile friendly web site at: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council .
