For Immediate Release: Wednesday, August 7, 2019
The Wheaton TGIF Concert Series will continue at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, as the Latin sound of Son Horizonte highlights the third of four free summer concerts at Wheaton Veterans Urban Park.
The park is located at 11200 Amherst Ave. and Reedie Drive in Wheaton (behind the Safeway supermarket and one block from the Wheaton Metro Station). Attendees are advised to bring chairs or blankets.
The Wheaton TGIF Concert Series is hosted by the Wheaton Urban District in partnership with Montgomery Parks. Concerts were scheduled for the second and fourth Fridays of July and August.
Son Horizonte translates to “The Sounds (Son) from the Horizon.” Son Horizonte features Leonardo Garcia, an accomplished keyboardist, pianist, composer and recording artist. The group displays its talents in jazz, Latin, Salsa and rock/fusion.
Garcia’s heritage and family roots are from Colombia. He has brought a blend of music from the Caribbean and Latin America to the Washington Metropolitan area for more than 30 years.
Son Horizonte is a group that, depending on appearances, can range from a small combo to big band. It brings the sounds of Cuba-Latin America and a mix of Afro-Cuban music.
