For Immediate Release: Wednesday, August 28, 2019
Davis Mill Road in Germantown has closed indefinitely between its two intersections with Wildcat Road this afternoon due to embankment erosion. Recent heavy rains have created pavement cracks along the road at the embankment sites; Wildcat Branch, which flows at the base of the embankment, has migrated with the heavy rainfall. The erosion has also compromised guard rail posts in this area.
MCDOT’s Division of Transportation Engineering, which has been monitoring the site, will be conducting an initial assessment of the roadway impacts and developing a design to address the problem. MCDOT’s Division of Highway Services is conducting outreach to the community and first responders about the closure.
A detour has been created to direct traffic around the impacted site. The detour runs from Davis Mill Road to Brink Road to Wildcat Road. Patrons of Butler’s Orchard will need to follow the detour. No residential driveways are impacted by this closure.
The length of the closure is currently unknown.
