Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services to Offer Free Languedoc Wine Master Class to Licensees This Fall

Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) is offering free training this fall to its alcohol-licensed restaurants and retail stores who are interested in learning more about French wines from the Languedoc region.

The training will feature experienced wine trainer Robert Cavanaugh, who will lead a special tasting event - about the trending region of Languedoc - designed specifically for ABS licensees. Participants will be invited to taste through a selection of crisp whites, sparkling Limoux, dry rosé and blended reds. In addition, the training will include tips on customer engagement and wine selling.

“We have trained ABS store staff with this class, and it was very well received,” said Kent Massie, ABS chief of retail operations. “These wines are exquisite and affordable, and we believe that private businesses will benefit from the training as well.”

The training for ABS licensees will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the ABS offices, located at 201 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg, on Sept. 30, Oct. 7 and Oct. 21.

While the Monday classes are free, there is limited seating and registration is required. Licensees may register online by visiting the ABS website.

“The French region of Languedoc is one of the most exciting wine categories for restaurants and luxury hotels,” said Cavanaugh. “High quality French wines with appealing flavors and excellent values makes this incredibly diverse region one of the best choices for wine lists and by the glass selections.”

ABS is the wholesaler of alcohol in Montgomery County and operates 25 beer, wine and spirits stores and licenses nearly 1,100 businesses. All profits generated from the sale of alcohol are transferred to the Montgomery County General Fund to pay for services that would otherwise be funded by County resident tax dollars.
