Press Releases - Department of Transportation

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 19, 2019

Friday, September 20 is International PARK(ing) Day when artists, planners, businesses, organizations, groups and individuals are encouraged to temporarily transform a metered parking space into a fun, parklike spot. Participants creatively reimagine the urban landscape for a day and promote themselves.

Between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. In Silver Spring, stop by the parkets of Montgomery Parks, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and Torti Gallas + Partners on Ellsworth Drive between Veterans Plaza and Fenton Street. In Bethesda, look for Bethesda Green on Norfolk Avenue between St Elmo and Cordell avenues, and Bethesda Transportation Solutions, also on Norfolk Avenue between Fairmont and St. Elmo avenues.

“PARK(ing) Day is a way to have fun, stimulate conversations about our  transportation choices and support infrastructure that is more transit-oriented, bikeable and walkable,” said MCDOT Director Al Roshdieh.  “This year’s participants will be creating a sense of community and engaging passersby with interactive displays. I hope you’ll come by and admire the participants’ creativity while relaxing in one of the urban parks.”
