County residents are invited to attend the African American Health Program’s free Aging Information Exchange Summit on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building in downtown Silver Spring.
The Summit will provide attendees with information and resources to support living in place as one ages.
Dr. Marie Bernard, Deputy Director of the National Institutes on Aging (NIA) will be the keynote speaker. She will provide an overview of research supported by the NIA, with a focus on findings relevant to older African Americans.
An information and resource fair will host area organizations and businesses that support older residents; it will include free health screenings for body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and blood glucose. The Silver Spring Civic Building is located at 1 Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring. Parking is available in the adjacent Ellsworth Drive parking garage.
The event is free, but registration is required. Call 240-777-1202 or register online. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and light refreshments will be provided.
