More than a Month of Montgomery County Activities Celebrate October as ‘Energy Action Month’

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 2, 2019

October is Energy Action Month and Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will be out in the community well into November trying to protect and improve the environment and help residents lower their energy costs.

Events this week include “Energy Week at the Montgomery Health and Human Services Home Energy Program,” where qualified residents can learn about energy assistance programs, and, while supplies last, pick up an energy efficiency kit; “LEDs and Libations” at which the County’s Department of Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) will help distribute energy-efficient light bulbs; and the Solar Home Tour, where residents are invited into homes and businesses to see the benefits of solar power.

DEP is hosting and supporting dozens of Energy Action Month events throughout October, including the following:

  • Oct. 3- 4: Energy Week at the Montgomery Health and Human Services Home Energy Program. HHS office at 1301 Piccard Drive in Rockville. 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Qualified residents can learn about energy assistance programs. After completing an application or bringing in documentation, they will receive an energy conservation box (while supplies last). • Oct. 5-6: Solar Home Tour. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Solar United Neighbors and American Solar Energy Society are teaming up for the 24th annual National Solar Tour in which homeowners and businesses who rely on solar power open their locations to share their experiences.
