Safe Routes to School Program to Engage with Students at Sargent Shriver Elementary School in Silver Spring and at Westfield Wheaton Mall to Encourage a Safe Halloween

Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is providing educational tips and materials to encourage safe trick or treating for children throughout the County this year.

From 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, the County’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program staff will be at Sargent Shriver Elementary School.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 31 on the lower level of Westfield Wheaton mall, SRTS staff will participate in the "Boo Bash.Learn more.

MCDOT wants to ensure that trick or treaters have a safe and fun Halloween by sharing these safety tips:

  • Always use the crosswalk
  • Cross with the “walk” Symbol
  • Make eye contact with drivers
  • Walk without texting
  • Look for cars in all directions before crossing
  • Wear BRIGHT at NIGHT
